DfE Flexible Working Ambassador School Project
At Thomas Gainsborough School, we are proud to be part of the Department for Education (DfE) Flexible Working Ambassador Schools (FWAMS) project. This initiative aims to promote and support flexible working in schools, helping to create a sustainable work-life balance for teachers and staff across the education sector.
The FWAMS project was introduced by the DfE in response to the need for schools to adopt more flexible working practices. Research shows that flexibility in the workplace leads to higher job satisfaction, better retention rates, and improved well-being for staff. By embracing flexible working, schools can support their staff while also maintaining high standards of teaching and learning.
As a Flexible Working Ambassador School, Thomas Gainsborough School serves as an example of how flexible working can be effectively implemented in an educational setting. Our role involves sharing our experiences and best practices with other schools, providing guidance and support on how to integrate flexible working arrangements that benefit both staff and students.
Key aspects of flexible working include the ability to adjust working hours, job share, and utilise remote working where appropriate. At Thomas Gainsborough School, we have seen first-hand how these arrangements help teachers and staff manage their professional duties alongside personal responsibilities, such as childcare or further studies.
Our involvement in the FWAMS project includes offering training, workshops, and resources to other schools, showcasing how flexible working can lead to a more positive and productive workplace. We believe that by sharing our journey and successes, we can help others adopt these practices and create a more supportive, inclusive, and resilient education system.
We are committed to continuing our role as a Flexible Working Ambassador School, working with the DfE and schools across the East of England to make flexible working a standard practice in the education sector, ensuring a better future for both staff and students alike.
