Oxbridge Conference

On Saturday 15th March, Mr Yates and Mr Bavington took a group of Year 12 students to an Oxbridge conference at Culford School.  The Thomas Gainsborough Sixth Form is proud of its recent successes in supporting students to secure offers from Oxford and Cambridge universities, because we know how competitive and demanding the admissions process is.  It was useful to hear from admissions tutors from both universities about the importance of choosing colleges and the likely format of interviews.  Culford's Head of Sixth Form gave valuable guidance about recent changes to the format of the personal statement and the new process for sitting admissions tests.  Students then had the opportunity to hear from subject specialists for their chosen subjects before their parents joined us for a question and answer session with recent Oxbridge graduates.  It was particularly pleasing to hear how positively these universities regard the Extended Project Qualification which we are fortunate in being able to offer at TGS.  Applying to Oxford or Cambridge can be a daunting process, but also potentially life-changing, and we wish our Year 12 cohort well.
