Start times and breaks
To provide students with a suitable window in between each exam within the usual timings of the school day, exms start at 9AM and 1PM.
Students will have a usual 30 minute break 1 with access to the full range of food options, and this break 1 will usually be extended if students have had a morning exam. They will attend lesson 3 from 11:45 until 12:45, and then start their break 2 where cold food options will be available in the Lightwell.
To make best use of this second break we advise students who may need a second set of refreshments to bring snacks and drinks with them as well. We will also make sure that all students have had time for the toilet and some fresh air during this pre-exam break.
While we aim for a 1PM start we do have a little flexibility on the start time for some shorter exams which we will use to make sure that all students are ready and confident.
Most afternoon exams finish after 2:30 PM, and older students, including those in Year 10 & 11, are then given the choice to walk home early or wait in the bus park or Lightwell until the end of the school day.
Other reminders
Students should be well prepared for exams with the following equipment:
-
2 black pens and a highlighter
-
Pencil, rubber, ruler, eraser in a clear pencil case
-
Calculator (except for their first maths paper)
-
Maths equipment
-
Water in a completely clear bottle
Their phones will be in pouches at the back of the hall, and they are not allowed to wear any wrist-watch. We provide large analogue and digital clocks in every exam room so they can keep pace of time available.
Students who receive additional time, or support with reading and/or writing to fairly access exams are supported by Mrs Dormady and have their exam in the Sixth Form block, and meet at the Snack-Shack. Other exams are in the Sports Hall, small Gym or above the Library.
If your child has any questions about their exams they can speak to their subject teacher, or a member of the Year team.
We wish them all the best of luck as they put their preparations to the test and benefit from this practice and the feedback that follows.
