Dear Families,

We wish all students and their families a safe and happy summer holiday.

Message from the Headteacher

As I retire I wanted to take the opportunity to thank families for their support during my time at TGS. It has  been a privilege.

I have shared with you my final message to the Governors which you can read on our website at tgschool.net/news/message-from-the-headteacher-july-2025

In September Mr Lewis joins the school as our new Headteacher.

Uniform

As families buy uniform for the new year, we would like to remind families of the importance of smart appearance. We have simple uniform expectations to help students feel part of school life in as affordable a way as possible.

When buying new items please remember that these will need to be a suitable fit throughout the year.

This means that:

  • Trousers must fit around the waist so they do not slide down, belts with discrete buckles can be worn;

  • Skirts must be of a straight cut, and not too tight or made of stretchy fabric, they should reach close to the knee;

  • Shoes must be patent leather or polishable;

  • Socks if work must be plain black with no logos;

  • For PE, socks must be white, or TGS PE socks and shorts, skorts, tracksuits or jogging bottoms must be plain black.

We have more information about expectations and sanctions for incorrect uniform or jewellery and  prices and a link to our supplier at https://tgschool.net/uniform

Summer work & Go4Schools

Please remember that some subjects will have set preparation work for GCSEs or A Levels starting in September. Your child will have received information about this direct from their teachers.

Other students and subjects may also have tasks set on Go4Schools. This is a valuable way to support your child’s continued progress with some enjoyable and valuable tasks.

Timetables and groups for the new academic year are now being set up. So please do not rely on any information on new groups that you may see in Go4Schools before your child receives their final printed timetable when they return in September.

Careers

Work Experience in Year 10

During year 10 it is expected that all students will complete targeted work experience at some point in the academic year, avoiding the four week mock exams in January.

For more information see this guide (which is also available on the careers page of the school website which should answer any questions you have regarding this. However, if you wish to contact us, please email Mrs Cook on pcook@tgschool.net who will be happy to help.

We would encourage students to start discussions at home now, to ensure opportunities are not missed. We will hold a full assembly with students when we return in September.
